England defeated India by 27 runs in the high-scoring decider at Lord’s to clinch the three-match series 2-1. Here are updated team rankings after the series.
India failed to chase down the massive target of 388 despite a stunning century from Rohit Sharma and half-centuries from Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli. There was little contribution from the middle and lower-middle order, however, as India finished their innings at 360.
Sam Curran was the pick of the bowlers for the hosts, picking up four wickets for 75 runs in his 10-over spell. Earlier, it was Ben Duckett’s authoritative 141-run knock that propelled England to a mammoth total after opting to bat first. He added 192 runs with Jacob Bethell (91) for the opening wicket while Joe Root (74*) and Jos Buttler (41*) also played crucial knocks.
Eventually, the total proved enough for the home team as they defeated India in a bilateral ODI series for the first time since 2018.

Despite the defeat, India have retained their No.1 position in the latest ICC men’s ODI rankings. However, they lost three points after going down in the third ODI. Overall, India lost five rating points after losing two matches of the series and have 116 points, five more than the second-placed New Zealand. England remain in seventh place in the rankings after their win in the decider.
New Zealand defeated the West Indies in the thrilling fourth ODI by one wicket to seal the five-match series 3-1 with a game to go. They remain in second place with a rating of 111, while the West Indies are 10th.
