India lost the fifth and final T20I by 56 runs against England to go down 0-4 in what has been a forgettable series for them. Here are player ratings for Indian players.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi - 2
3 matches, 42 runs at 14, SR: 168
The 15-year-old got a taste of international cricket after a blockbuster IPL season earlier this year. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi played three matches and got out for scores less than 20 runs on all three occasions before getting dropped for the last game.
Sanju Samson - 1
2 matches, 28 runs at 14, SR: 133.33
Sanju Samson came into the series on the back of scores of five and zero against Ireland and was dropped after scoring only one run in the series opener. He played in the final T20I after that and scored 27 runs in a 258-run chase.
Abhishek Sharma - 3
5 matches, 131 runs at 26.2, SR: 177.02
Abhishek Sharma was in good form early on in the series but faded away in the latter part. His gung-ho approach didn’t work in the series either as he finished with 131 runs in five innings.
Ishan Kishan - 3
5 matches, 122 runs at 24.4, SR: 132.6
Ishan Kishan was below par in the series, much like the other Indian batters. He scored 122 runs in five innings at an average of 24.4, but he was expected to have a lot more impact consistently, especially after coming in to bat in the powerplay on most of the occasions.
Shreyas Iyer - 5
5 matches, 218 runs at 54.5, SR: 157.07
Shreyas Iyer, at times, carried the Indian batting line-up and finished as the highest run-scorer for the visitors. He scored 218 runs in five innings at a strike rate and an average of 54.5. But his captaincy was left a lot to be desired as Iyer now goes winless in the role after six matches, with five losses.
Tilak Varma - 2
5 matches, 104 runs at 26, SR: 152.94
Take out the 53-run knock in the fifth T20I and the Indian vice-captain was as good as not playing in this series. Tilak Varma finished the five-match series against England with 104 runs.
Shivam Dube - 2
5 matches, 85 runs at 21.25, SR: 130.76 | 2 wickets 23.5, Econ: 15.66
Shivam Dube has a lot to improve as an all-rounder but was effective neither with the bat nor with the ball. Role clarity could’ve been an issue with a lot of chopping and changing in the batting order. He was also used only for three overs in the entire series and went for 47 runs while picking two wickets in the 19th over of the innings when the batters were adamant at smashing sixes.
Suryansh Shedge - 1
1 match, 7 runs, SR: 116.66
Suryansh Shedge got a chance to showcase his skills only in the final T20I and his performance was disappointing as well. He bowled three wicketless overs for 39 runs and then scored only seven runs with the bat.
Axar Patel - 2
16 runs at 4, SR: 123:07 | 2 wickets at 78, Econ: 11.14
Axar Patel was pretty ordinary throughout the series, especially with the ball. He was the second most expensive Indian bowler, conceding runs at an economy of 11.16 and picking up only two wickets. He didn’t have any impact with the bat either, mustering only 16 runs in five innings.
Washington Sundar - 1
1 match, 5 runs, SR: 62.50
Washington Sundar played only one T20I and had a very limited role to play in the series. He scored only five runs with the bat and was taken for 19 runs in the only over he bowled.
Harshit Rana - 2
3 matches, 3 wickets at 23.33, Econ: 10
Harshit Rana played only three matches in the series and picked up three wickets in as many innings. He got ruled out midway through the series due to injury, but was expected to have more impact with the ball. He bowled seven overs in two innings and conceded 70 runs at an economy of 10.
Varun Chakaravarthy - 2
3 matches, 1 wicket at 72, Econ: 10.28
Varun Chakaravarthy hasn’t been the same bowler ever since South Africa took him to the cleaners in the Super Six clash of the T20 World Cup. He struggled in two innings and struggled to contain the runs, especially in the middle overs. He picked up only one wicket in the seven overs he bowled.
Ravi Bishnoi - 1
2 matches, 0 wickets, Econ 15
Ravi Bishnoi played two matches but got a chance to bowl in only one innings as the first T20I was washed out due to rain after India’s batting innings. He went for 60 runs in four overs without picking up a wicket. Moreover, he struggled with his run-up in the 17th over of the second T20I that turned the game in England’s favour with the no-balls he bowled.
Arshdeep Singh - 5
5 matches, 4 wickets at 37.5, Econ: 9:47
Arshdeep Singh was the best bowler for India in this series with the figures of 4/150 in 15.5 overs. He also looked completely out of sorts but started well with the ball in the couple of T20Is, delivering a maiden up front. But he too couldn’t keep a leash on the run-scoring.
Prasidh Krishna - 3
2 matches, 1 wicket at 64, Econ: 9.14
Prasidh Krishna too, wasn’t up to the mark and went for runs in the two matches he played. However, he was the most economical bowler for India in the series at 9.14 and picked up one wicket.
Prince Yadav - 3
3 matches, 2 wickets at 59, Econ: 10.72
Prince Yadav played three matches in this series and was impressive only in parts. Whenever he was wayward, he was punished and finished with only two wickets while conceding 118 runs in the 11 overs he bowled.
