Thereafter, it was the Mandhana show as India's stand-in skipper for Harmanpreet Kaur made her way past fifty, and then closed in on a maiden century in T20I cricket. She eventually got there off 51 balls, and was dismissed for 112 off 62 in the final over. Her knock, along with Harleen Deol's 43 off 23, powered India to 210-5. Lauren Bell stood out with the ball, taking 3-27.

In reply, England lost Sophia Dunkley and Danni Wyatt-Hodge off consecutive deliveries, slipping to 9-2. Tammy Beaumont was next out, in the sixth over, having contributed 10 to a 49-run third-wicket stand.

58-3 soon became 88-6 as Amy Jones, Alice Capsey and Em Arlott all came and went. Skipper Sciver-Brunt was the only one to put up any resistance, with 66 off 42. By the time she was the ninth batter to go, defeat was all but assured – and eventually came by 97 runs.

All the records from India's 97-run win over England

The margin of 97 runs is England's biggest defeat in women's T20Is, and the second-largest across genders – the men's team lost by 150 runs to the same opposition, India, earlier this year.

This is India's second-largest T20I win on English soil. Their largest remains the 100-run win over Barbados in the 2022 Commonwealth Games. Naturally, it is also their biggest win over England.

India's score of 210-5 is their second-biggest in T20Is, after their 217-4 against West Indies last December. It is also their largest T20I total outside of India, overtaking the 201-5 they made against UAE in Dambulla during the 2024 Asia Cup.

Smriti Mandhana recorded the highest individual score for India women in T20Is, beating Harmanpreet Kaur's 103 against New Zealand in 2018. It is only the second century for India women in the format, and also earned Mandhana a spot on an elite list, as she became the fifth woman (first Indian) to score a century in each format of international cricket.

India left-arm spinner N Shree Charani recorded the second-best figures for India women on T20I debut with 4-12 in 3.5 overs. Sravanthi Naidu's 4-9 against Bangladesh in 2014 remain the record.
