England whitewashed Ireland in the three-match ODI series which ended at Worcester on Sunday, and here’s how the ICC Women’s Championship points table looks after the result.
England climbed three spots to be placed at fourth in the ICC Women’s Championship points table, having accumulated six points from the three-match series against Ireland, to add to their existing three. With four victories in six games, England stand one point behind Pakistan, and just a solitary point clear of the West Indies.
On the other hand, Ireland have lost all their six matches in the championship so far, and are yet to open their account. They were comprehensively beaten by the West Indies this July, before going down to England. They stand ninth (on net-run rate superiority), just a spot above Zimbabwe, who have also lost all six fixtures.
This was England’s second series in the Women’s Championship, after having drawn level (1-1) with New Zealand in a three-match series (with one abandoned game), in May this year.
England started off with a comfortable 282-run chase in the first ODI on the back of a splendid 104 off 95 balls from opener Maia Bouchier. Sophia Dunkley also scored 74 off 61, stitching a 143-run opening stand in 19.2 overs. Cara Murray was the pick of the bowlers for Ireland, scalping three for 58 in nine overs.
Issy Wong registered a five-wicket haul in the second ODI, returning with figures of 5-33, restricting Ireland to 165. Amy Hunter, who also scored 62 off 90 in the first ODI, scored 64 off 96 in the second, and was Ireland’s only positive. England got to the target in 23 overs, with six wickets intact.
Sophia Dunkley turned up in the third ODI to register a 119 off as many deliveries, taking England to a competitive 291. Murray bagged a four-wicket haul again and registered the most wickets in the series. Ireland were kept down to 177, as England completed a 114-run victory with a clean sweep.
England will take on Bangladesh in their next assignment in a three-match series starting September 17, while Ireland are yet to announce their next opponent.
