South Africa have announced their ODI and T20I squads for the tour of England in September.
Keshav Maharaj, David Miller return to South Africa T20I squad
The ODI squad bears a settled look, with only one change to the group that has sealed the three-match series against Australia, with a game to go. Prenalen Subrayen has been left out, as the Proteas look to keep him out of the spotlight after his bowling action was reported following the second ODI. Both Kagiso Rabada and Kwena Maphaka are in the squad for the England ODIs, after the latter only made the squad for the Australia series after Rabada was ruled out through injury.
There are two major additions to the T20I squad, though. One is the return of David Miller, who did not play against Australia thanks to his prior commitments to The Hundred. He is on a hybrid central contract with South Africa, allowing him the luxury to be more selective about international cricket.
The other is the return of new No.1-ranked ODI bowler in the world Keshav Maharaj to the T20I squad, potentially to play his first game in the format since last November, with quicks Marco Jansen and Lizaad Williams also returning after injury lay-offs.
Donovan Ferreira has also returned, with senior batter Rassie van der Dussenmissing out after being used out of position at No.6 in Australia. Ferreira has played six T20Is, the last of which came in December 2024 against Pakistan. He has been in stunning form as a finisher for the Oval Invincibles in the Hundred, scoring 104 runs at a strike rate of 231.1. Across all T20 cricket this year, Ferreira averages 32.25 at a strike rate of 191.82 from 27 matches.
