Tom Curran returned with figures of 4-20, including a hat-trick, in Edinburgh Castle Rockers' 59-run win over Belfast Wolves in the European T20 Premier League on Wednesday, September 2.
Tom Curran's exceptional spell helps Rockers beat Wolves in the ETPL
Curran became the first bowler to pick up a hat-trick in the inaugural edition of ETPL. The three wickets were split across two overs. He dismissed Fred Klaassen and Matthew Humphreys on the last two deliveries of the 16th over, before sending Mark Adair back on the first delivery of the 18th to complete the hat-trick and seal a massive 59-run win for Edinburgh Castle Rockers.
Interestingly, Mark’s brother, Ross Adair took his catch to help Curran complete the treble. Ross also took the catch to send back Klaassen while Curran castled Humphreys. Earlier in the game, Mark had dismissed his brother for a nine-ball nine after being hit for a four.
Belfast Wolves were bundled out for 130 runs in a chase of 190 following the England quick’s terrific spell. Apart from Curran, Trent Boult was the star with the ball for the Rockers, picking up three wickets for just 16 runs in his three overs. However, it was JJ Smuts who won the player of the match award for his 98-run knock off 60 deliveries, featuring 11 fours and three sixes, propelling the Rockers to 189.
With this 59-run win, the Rockers have jumped to the top of the points table with three wins from four matches, with the other ending in no result. They are one of the only two unbeaten teams of the season so far, alongside Rotterdam Dockers, who are in second place.

This is the second time that Curran has picked up a hat-trick in his career. Six years ago in July 2019, Curran had dismissed David Lloyd, Colin Ingram and Billy Root off back-to-back deliveries for Surrey against Glamorgan in the T20 Blast. His stunning spell of 3-3 in two overs helped Surrey skittle the opposition for just 44 and win the game by 97 runs.
