Kane Williamson celebrates during his semi-final innings in the 2025 Champions Trophy

Kane Williamson scored his 48th international century in the second 2025 Champions Trophy semi-final between New Zealand and South Africa today (March 5), drawing him level with Steve Smith on the all-time list.

The former ODI captain came to the crease in the powerplay after Will Young was out attempting a big shot to Lungi Ngidi. He put on a huge partnership with Rachin Ravindra, who also reached a century, to take the BlackCaps past 200 shortly after the 30-over mark.

Ravindra edged behind off Kagiso Rabada soon after reaching his century, ending their partnership for 164 off 154 balls. Williamson, however, carried on and went to his own three-figure milestone in the 40th over of the innings. He ramped a ball from Wiaan Mulder over the keeper's head to get to the mark off 91 balls. His second 50 came off just 30 deliveries.

How many centuries does Williamson have?

Dismissed for 102, it was his 15th ODI century and his second in less than a month after he scored 133* against the same opposition in the tri-series ahead of the Champions Trophy. Overall, it was Williamson's 48th century in international cricket, with 33 Test hundreds making up the rest.

Only 11 players have more international centuries than Williamson, and he is now level with fellow Fab Four member Smith, who announced his ODI retirement today (March 5), and India legend Rahul Dravid. The other two members of that group, Joe Root and Virat Kohli, are still ahead on 53 and 82 international centuries respectively.

The innings took him past former South Africa legend AB de Villiers, with a gap back to the next player on the list on 42, Chris Gayle.
