Indian opener Ishan Kishan broke into the top ten of the ICC men’s T20I batting rankings on Wednesday (February 18).
Ishan Kishan breaks into top ten T20I batters
Kishan’s exceptional form helped him continue with his dizzying rise through the ICC rankings. Ranked 78th at the time of his comeback to the T20I setup earlier this year, Kishan zoomed to 32nd place by the time the T20 World Cup began, and rose to 25th across the first two games. A dazzling, decisive 77 against Pakistan has now helped him rise to eighth place.
Pathum Nissanka, too, scored a hundred for the ages (an unbeaten one to boot), converting a potentially tricky chase against Australia into an easy one. He rose three places to third place, while Tilak Varma rose one place to fourth. Another big beneficiary was Ryan Rickelton, whose 115 runs in South Africa’s three wins saw him rise from 33rd to 11th.
Brad Evans achieves career-best after six wickets in two games
Brad Evans’ 3-23 in Zimbabwe’s famous win against Australia helped him jump 10 places: he is now fifth on the bowlers’ chart. Axar Patel and Jasprit Bumrah both gained ground after the Pakistan game, but that came at the cost of teammate Arshdeep Singh, who missed the match. Rashid Khan, meanwhile, displaced Abrar Ahmed at second place.
The top two all-rounders both had good weeks, at the end of which Saim Ayub displaced Sikandar Raza to reclaim the top spot. A brilliant unbeaten fifty in a win against Scotland helped Dipendra Singh Airee rise from sixth place to fourth.
However, the most spectacular leap of the week has been of Ben Manenti, who jumped a staggering 160 places on the all-rounders’ table: he is now joint 20th on that chart.
