Pakistan spinner Mohammad Nawaz has been sanctioned for breaching the ICC Anti-Doping Code after testing positive for a prohibited substance.

The 32-year-old tested positive for Carboxy-THC, a substance of abuse, following Pakistan's T20 World Cup match against the Netherlands in Colombo on February 7 this year.

Nawaz admitted the offence and established that the substance had been used outside competition and was unrelated to sporting performance.

The ICC handed him a three-month ineligibility period, backdated to May 1, 2026, when he began a voluntary provisional suspension. The sanction will be reduced to one month once he completes a substance abuse treatment programme.

Having already served two and a half months of suspension and agreed to the treatment programme, Nawaz's provisional suspension has been lifted. Subject to completing the programme, he will not have to serve any further period of ineligibility.

Mohammad Nawaz's recent record to be disqualified

In accordance with the ICC Anti-Doping Code, Nawaz's records from Pakistan's T20 World Cup opener against the Netherlands, along with all matches he played until May 1, 2026, have been disqualified.

As a result, any runs, wickets or other individual statistics from those matches will no longer count towards his career record, although the results of the matches themselves remain unchanged.

The period covers Pakistan's entire T20 World Cup campaign, during which Nawaz played all seven matches and took seven wickets at an average of 22.28, including the high-profile clash against India, where he went wicketless. It also includes his subsequent PSL stint with the Multan Sultans, where he claimed six wickets in 10 matches.
