Sri Lanka eliminated as New Zealand win big
New Zealand beat Sri Lanka by 61 runs at the Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. As a result, Sri Lanka became the first team in the Super Eights to be eliminated from the race to the semi-finals.
Sri Lanka began well, keeping New Zealand to 44-2 in the powerplay. From 75-2, however, New Zealand collapsed to 84-6 (this included a phase where they lost three wickets for no run in six balls) before Mitchell Santner (47 in 26 balls) and Cole McConchie (31* in 23) took them to 168-7. For Sri Lanka, Maheesh Theekshana had 3-30 in four overs and Dushmantha Chameera 3-38 in his four.
Matt Henry (2-1-3-2) then struck with the first ball of the innings, and again with his seventh, to reduce the hosts to 6-2. They reached 27 when Rachin Ravindra had two batters stumped in the same over, and they soon slid to 59-6. Kamindu Mendis (31 in 23) and Dunith Wellalage (29 in 23) put up some resistance, but it was never going to be enough. They eventually got 107-8 as Ravindra finished with 4-0-27-4 to go with his 22-ball 32.

England, on top of group two, have qualified for the semi-finals, while Sri Lanka are out of the race. New Zealand are in second place, ahead of Pakistan, who now need a big win (and/or a big New Zealand defeat).
