The Super Eights stage of the 2026 T20 World Cup began on February 21. Here's what the points table looks like after the first day.
Day one of T20 World Cup Super Eights ends in damp squib
Pakistan and New Zealand were set to meet at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Saturday. The toss got underway on time, half an hour before the scheduled start time of 7:00pm.
Even as raindrops started to patter, Pakistan skipper Salman Ali Agha won the toss and elected to bat first. The Group A runners-up made one change, Fakhar Zaman coming in for Khawaja Nafay.
The Black Caps made three changes to their side as captain Mitchell Santner returned, and Ish Sodhi made the XI as they went in with an extra spinner. Pacer Lockie Ferguson was a like-for-like swap with Jacob Duffy.

Unfortunately, that was as far as the game went. The pitch began to be covered even as the toss formalities concluded, and overs were lost from 8:10pm onwards. With 10:16pm the cut-off time for a five-overs-a-side game, the rain not relenting until 9:05 meant a resumption would not be possible, and the teams split the points.
