Canada’s Yuvraj Samra became the fourth-youngest centurion in men's T20I cricket during his side’s T20 World Cup 2026 game against New Zealand.

Yuvraj Samra scores record T20 World Cup hundred

Samra opened in the Group D match in Chennai after captain Dilpreet Bajwa opted to bat first. Bajwa and Samra enjoyed a huge 116-run opening partnership, with the 19-year-old Samra scoring 77 of those. Canada reached 50 by the end of powerplay and were well placed for a late assault after getting to the 100-run mark in 12.4 overs, with all 10 wickets intact.

But Bajwa departed in the 14th over for a 39-ball 36, and none of the other batters could provide enough support to Samra to take the team to a winning total. The teenager completed his 100 off 58 deliveries, and Canada finished at 173-4, well short of a challenging total on a true batting wicket.

New Zealand made light work of the chase, getting to the target in 15.1 overs, riding on fifties from Glenn Phillips and Rachin Ravindra. Phillips was especially aggressive, bringing up his half-century off 22 deliveries, and taking the Kiwis from 100 to 176 in just 35 balls, and with that to the Super Eights.

Samra, meanwhile, struck the first hundred of his young T20I career and became the first associate player to do so in a men’s T20 World Cup. He is also the youngest to score a ton in the T20 World Cup, and the first to get to the milestone against New Zealand. As far as T20s are concerned, he is fourth on the list of youngest men’s centurions.
