India posted 330 in their World Cup match against Australia.at Visakhapatnam. What are the highest run-chases in women's ODI cricket?
India set Australia 331 to win in Visakhapatnam
The hosts were sent in to bat after Australia skipper Alyssa Healy won the toss. Smriti Mandhana and Pratika Rawal made a sedate start, before accelerating towards the end of the Powerplay to take India to 58-0. Both players went on to score half-centuries, as Mandhana became the first woman to score 1,000 ODI runs in a calendar year, and the fastest woman to 5,000 ODI runs overall.
Their stand was broken at 155, with Mandhana's wicket. Rawal went six overs later for 75, before Harmanpreet Kaur and Harleen Deol fell in quick succession to leave India at 240-4 in 37.2 overs.
The innings was given some impetus thereafter, thanks to a stand of 54 off 34 balls between Richa Ghosh and Jemimah Rodrigues. But they also holed out within two overs of each other. Australia dragged things back after that, taking the last five wickets for 21 runs to bowl India out for 330.
In order to win though, Australia will have to set a world record for the highest chase in women's ODI cricket. Only once in the history of the format has a total over 300 been successfully chased down – 302 by Sri Lanka against South Africa last year.
However, seven of the top ten run-chases in women's ODIs have been completed against India, which may give Australia more hope. In addition, Australia recently completed the fourth-highest chase against this same opponent earlier this year, chasing down 282 at Mullanpur (New Chandigarh) with eight wickets in hand, in the first ODI of their three-match series.
