India won the 2025 Women's World Cup, defeating South Africa in the final, but it hasn't done much to improve their position in the ICC women's ODI team rankings.
Women's World Cup finalists not in top two of ICC team rankings
When India defeated Australia after a world record run-chase in the second semi-final, it ensured that the Women's World Cup will see a new champion as South Africa had eliminated England in the first.
As it turned out, the home side got their fairytale finish, defending 298 in the final in Navi Mumbai despite South Africa skipper Laura Wolvaardt's magnificent century, to lift the trophy for the first time.
However, it wasn't enough for them to break into the top two of the ICC team rankings, let alone reaching the top spot. India were ranked third at the start of the 2025 Women's World Cup, following their ODI series defeat against Australia, with 126 points to their name. They remain at the same spot with the same number of points after their triumph. South Africa, meanwhile, have risen from fifth to fourth, overtaking New Zealand to get to 99 points from 93 before the World Cup.
Unsurprisingly, Australia still dominate the rankings at the top, dropping just one point from 164 to 163 following their semi-final exit. England, who bowed out in the semi-final as well, continue to remain second, but only just as they are tied on 126 points with India.
The three other teams that participated in the World Cup: Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Pakistan, maintain their positions from before the start of the event - sixth, sevent, and eighth respectively.
