Andries Gous hits highest score in ILT20 history

Gous' Desert Vipers took on MI Emirates in Qualifier 1 of the 2025/26 season. The American opener got his side's innings underway alongside Fakhar Zaman after the Vipers were sent in by opposition skipper Kieron Pollard.

Gous took eight balls to hit his first boundary, but that was enough to get him going. In the fifth over, he hit Romario Shepherd for back-to-back sixes, and another four. He made it to a half-century off 29 balls, hitting his fourth six to cross the 50-run mark.

His next 50 runs came even quicker, off just 24 balls, as Gous recorded the sixth individual century in ILT20 history. He didn't stop there, though. In the penultimate over of the innings, he once again hit Shepherd for consecutive sixes to break the tournament record for the highest individual score (Alex Hales' 110 in the inaugural season). He finished on 120 not out, off 58 balls.

Fakhar made 69, and Sam Curran hit 38 off 12 to take the Vipers to 233-1. Gous and Fakhar's opening stand of 157 was also an all-time tournament record, breaking Phil Salt and Michael Pepper's record set just two days prior.

The Vipers won yesterday's clash by 45 runs to qualify for the final on January 4. Their opponents will be one of MI Emirates, Abu Dhabi Knight Riders and Dubai Capitals.
