Abhishek Sharma scored a golden duck in the 2nd ODI vs Australia A. How does this follow his outstanding Asia Cup form? Learn more

Abhishek Sharma registered a golden duck in the second unofficial ODI against Australia A, his first game after a sensational Asia Cup campaign.

Abhishek, one of the most destructive batters to emerge from India, has had a phenomenal run in international cricket since making his T20I debut last July. In 24 matches, he has amassed 849 runs at an average of 36.91, but more importantly, with a strike rate of 196.07. It is the highest by any batter, with at least 500 runs, in T20I history.

He carried his form into the Asia Cup too, smashing 314 runs at a strike rate of 200, with six successive scores of 30 or more. Having struck 135 off 54 balls against England in his last game before the tournament, Abhishek was on the brink of becoming the first batter to notch eight consecutive fifties in the format, but fell for just five in the final against Pakistan. It was, however, enough to see him become the highest-rated T20I batter, achieving a best of 931 points.

Abhishek Sharma scores golden duck against India A

Abhishek replaced Priyansh Arya, who scored a century in the first unofficial ODI, for the second game against Australia A in Kanpur today (October 3). He opened the innings alongside Prabhsimran Singh, but was unable to leave any mark, falling to Jack Edwards on the very first ball that he faced. It was his first List A duck in three years, and his first-ever golden duck in 61 innings in the format.

At the other end, Prabhsimran too failed to get going and fell for one. India A were 17-3 after skipper Shreyas Iyer was dismissed on eight, but Tilak Varma and Riyan Parag got their respective fifties to lead the fightback. They were 159-6 after 30 overs.
