India U19 beat Australia U19 by innings and 58 runs
After conceding a first-innings lead of 185, Australia U19 lost opener Alex Lee Young late on day two, starting the third day on 8-1. India U19 struck early, with Deepesh Devendran - the star from the first innings - cleaning up Steven Hogan in the second over of the day.
It was a case of regular wickets since then for the hosts. None of the top eight batters reached 25 as they were reduced to 50-6 and then 67-8. Australian left-arm spinner Aryan Sharma, batting at No.9, then began a counter-attack that saw him hit four fours and three sixes en route to 43 off 44 balls. His knock took the Australian total into three digits before Devendran's well-directed bouncer forced No.11 Tom Paddington to fend off to Vaibhav Suryavanshi at gully to close proceedings.
The wickets were shared among the Indian bowlers with Devendran (3-16) and Khilan Patel (3-19) taking three each, and Kishan Kumar (2-26) and Anmoljeet Singh (2-55) taking the remaining four.

Deepesh Devendran and Vaibhav Suryavanshi star for India U19
Earlier in the game, Devendran's fiery five-for restricted Australia U19 to 243 on day one. Hogan was the hosts' top-scorer with 92. Vaibhav Suryavanshi then smashed a 78-ball record-equalling century before Vedant Tiwari piled on Australia's agony with a patient 140 to take India U19 to 428.
Devendran is the son of former Tamil Nadu batter Vasudevan Devendran, who was the third-highest run-scorer in the inaugural edition of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (then Inter State T20), while Suryavanshi has already become a household name after his exploits in the IPL. Trivedi, the other centurion in the game, is an 18-year-old right-handed batter, who had a fruitful 50-over series prior to the Youth Test, scoring 61*, 26, and 86 in the three games against the same opponents.
The second and final Youth Test of the series will be played between October 7-10 at the Great Barrier Reef Arena in Mackay.
