Aiden Markram set a new world record in South Africa's win over India in the second Test match at Guwahati, taking nine catches across both innings.
Aiden Markram sets new world record
That total surpasses the previous record for the most catches taken in a Test match by a fielder (non-wicketkeeper), which was held by Ajinkya Rahane for the eight he held against Sri Lanka in Galle in 2018.
Markram took five of his catches in the first innings of the game, which equalled the record for the most catches held by a fielder in a single Test innings. Fielding at slip, he took a low catch off Keshav Maharaj to dismiss KL Rahul to get South Africa on the board, before combining with Marco Jansen to dismiss both Ravindra Jadeja and Nitish Kumar Reddy. A simple catch off Simon Harmer by Markram ended Washington Sundar's resistance, before he took Jansen to his five-for with a simple catch to dismiss Kuldeep Yadav. Markram is one of 16 fielders who have held five catches in a single Test innings.

In India's second innings in Guwahati, Markram came close to repeating the feat. South Africa set India 549 to win before bowling them out to 140. India were already three down before Markram got in on the action, taking another simple catch off Simon Harmer to leave India at 42-4. He was the catcher in Rishabh Pant's dismissal, and Sai Sudharsan's, before closing his account for the match by taking a sharp chance off Harmer to end Sundar's innings.
South Africa won the second Test by 408 runs, sealing a series clean-sweep in India. They won the first Test in Kolkata by 30 runs, with the Guwahati game giving them their first Test series win in India for 25 years.
