South Africa beat India in a low-scoring thriller at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Here's what the World Test Championship points table looks like after the result.
South Africa successfully defended 124 to take a 1-0 lead in the two-match series. At the forefront of their heroics were the visitors’ spinners, especially Simon Harmer, who took 4-21. However, it was Marco Jansen who set the tone by dismissing both Indian openers, Yashasvi Jaiswal (0) and KL Rahul (1) cheaply, reducing India to 1-2.
With India at 77-7, Axar Patel tried to launch a counter-attack, taking Keshav Maharaj for 16 runs off the first four deliveries of his ninth over. However, Maharaj picked up two wickets in two balls to close out the game. India captain Shubman Gill didn’t bat due to a neck spasm as South Africa won by 30 runs.
