Eight South African players will not be available for the IPL 2025 playoffs.
The IPL is set to resume following a suspension due to cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan. Originally scheduled to finish on May 25, the tournament has now been extended to June 3, causing availability concerns for players of various countries.
South Africa, who are set to play the World Test Championship final against Australia starting June 11 at Lord's, have 18 players featuring in IPL 2025, of which eight have been named in the WTC final squad.
On Wednesday, Enoch Nkwe, South Africa director of cricket, initially said May 26 was supposed to be the "latest for the Test guys to come back" before the squad leaves for England. However, a few hours later, he followed it up by saying the matter was "being discussed higher up" than him as reports emerged that BCCI might ask CSA to ensure availability of all South African players till the end of the IPL.

Yesterday (May 15), an ESPNcricinfo report suggested that the eight players part of the WTC final squad will return to South Africa by May 27, the day the league stage of the IPL ends, consequently missing the playoffs.
According to the report, the South Africa WTC final squad will then leave for the United Kingdom on May 30 to prepare for their warm-up match against Zimbabwe starting on June 3, the day of the IPL 2025 final.
