Delhi Capitals’ Ashutosh Sharma made his club cricket debut in England, scoring 100 in 73 deliveries on Saturday (May 31).

Ashutosh has been signed by Wigan Cricket Club in the 2025 Liverpool and District Cricket Competition, part of the ECB Premier League structure. He made his debut for the side today and left an immediate impression with a hundred at No.5 against Formby CC.

Walking out with the score at 17-3 in 9.5 overs, Ashutosh, along with opener Aveen Dalugod, stitched together a 153-run stand in 23.4 overs. Ashutosh struck eight fours and six sixes, batting at a strike rate of 136.99, as he rescued the team from a precarious position, reaching his hundred from 70 balls.

He failed to add another run however and his dismissal, in the 34th over, led to another collapse, as Wigan fell from 170-3 to 195-7 after 41 overs.

Ashutosh only arrived in the UK early this morning. He had a breakout IPL season last year, when he made 189 runs at a strike rate of 167.25. He was bought by Delhi Capitals from Punjab Kings ahead of the season, and scored 204 runs at an average of 29.14 in 2025 with a strike rate of 160.62.

Delhi failed to qualify for the IPL playoffs, which opened up the opportunity for Ashutosh to fly to England for the fixture.

Ashutosh has played 14 List A games along with 44 T20s, and is yet to score a hundred in white-ball professional cricket. He has also played eight first-class games, with an average of 28.46 and a high score of 123.

Ashutosh isn't the only Indian to play club cricket in England this summer. Earlier, KS Bharat, who was unsold in the 2025 IPL auction, signed up with Dulwich CC for the Surrey Championship. He made 134 in 108 balls against Esher CC on debut, helping the side to 318-8 earlier this month.
