The IPL match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in Dharamshala has been called off after a floodlight failure. Follow live updates on the situation here.
After inclement weather delayed the start of the match by one hour, Punjab Kings went in to bat first when Shreyas Iyer won the toss. Openers Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya got off to a superb start, with 69-0 in the Powerplay. They stepped on the accelerator and made it to 122-0 in 10 overs before Arya was dismissed by T Natarajan.
As new batter Shreyas Iyer walked out to the middle, it emerged that one of the floodlight towers at the ground had stopped working, and the match was held up. Following a lengthy delay, however, news soon began to filter through that it was called off altogether, and spectators were soon being asked to evacuate the ground.
There had been a cloud over this game even before it kicked off, thanks to military action by both India and Pakistan over the last couple of days. Dharamshala is only a few hours' drive from the border, and was one of the first cities whose airports were shut on May 7.
Earlier on May 8, the BCCI had announced that the next game in Dharamshala, Punjab Kings vs Mumbai Indians, scheduled for May 11, would be shifted to Ahmedabad.
