RCB sign Mayank Agarwal to replace Devdutt Padikkal
On Wednesday (May 7), the league announced that RCB had made the change to their squad: "Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have signed Mayank Agarwal as an injury replacement for Devdutt Padikkal for the remainder of TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.
"Devdutt Padikkal, who played 10 matches for RCB this season and scored 247 runs with the help of two half-centuries, sustained an injury to his right hamstring.
"Mayank Agarwal has played 127 IPL matches so far, scoring 2661 runs. He has 1 IPL hundred and 13 fifties against his name.
He joins RCB for INR 1 Crore."
IPL rules allow teams to sign a replacement player from the pool of unsold players in the auction, before their 12th match of the season. RCB have played 11 games so far, with their 12th scheduled for this Friday against Lucknow Super Giants.
Mayank Agarwal returns to RCB after 12 years
Agarwal made his debut for Karnataka in 2010, and was signed by RCB in 2011, following in the footsteps of state-mates Manish Pandey, Robin Uthappa and S Aravind among others, to represent the franchise.
He played for RCB between 2011 and 2013, scoring 433 runs across those three seasons. Agarwal went on to play for Delhi Capitals, Rising Pune Supergiant and Sunrisers Hyderabad before joining forces with Karnataka teammate KL Rahul at Punjab Kings.

Agarwal was appointed Punjab captain in 2022, after the franchise released Rahul – but was himself released after just one season. In 2023 and 2024, he played for Sunrisers Hyderabad but went unsold at the player auction for the 2025 season.
RCB currently sit second in the IPL points table, and are among the favourites to seal a top-two spot which would give them a second chance of qualifying for the final.
