Delhi Capitals have handed an IPL debut to 21-year-old all-rounder Madhav Tiwari, who is yet to play a senior professional match.

Tiwari has been named in DC's playing XI in place of Vipraj Nigam, perhaps as an extra pace option at the seam-friendly HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala. There was also rain around the area earlier, which led to a delayed start – cooler temperatures and damp conditions may further assist the quick bowlers.

Who is Madhav Tiwari?
Aged 21, he has still not played any senior domestic cricket for his state, Madhya Pradesh. Tiwari has represented their U23 and U19 sides though, participating in the Col. CK Nayudu Trophy (U23) in the 2024-25 season. He scored two half-centuries in the tournament, including 83 against Mumbai when MP were 183-6 following on, to help prevent an innings defeat.
He was used sparingly with the ball in that competition though, bowling more than 20 overs in an innings just twice. On one of those occasions, against Hyderabad, he took 2-57.
According to the Delhi Capitals team website, "Madhav produced some terrific performances with the ball at the U19 level for Madhya Pradesh and is a very capable batter as well."
He first came to public attention in action for Bhopal Leopards during the 2024 Madhya Pradesh Premier League, one of the many now-rapidly developing state-run T20 leagues in India.
In his very first outing in that competition, Tiwari batted at No.6 and scored 27 (13), before taking the new ball and returning figures of 0-32 in three overs. His 72 runs overall came at a strike rate of over 200, but his bowling was also on the expensive side.
