Punjab Kings gunned down 265 in their IPL 2026 match against Delhi Capitals to break their own world record of the highest successful run chase in T20 cricket on Saturday (April 25).
Batting first in Delhi, the Capitals rode on a mammoth 220-run second-wicket partnership between KL Rahul and Nitish Rana. The duo joined hands in the third over upon Pathum Nissanka’s dismissal, and the Kings were only able to break the stand in the penultimate over of the innings, with 248 already on the board.
While Rana fell nine short of a ton in 44 balls, Rahul went on to slam a record-breaking 152 off 67, featuring 16 fours and nine sixes. Delhi posted 264, the seventh-highest IPL total of all time before the Kings began their chase.
Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya gave the team a fiery start, together adding 126 runs for the opening wicket in just 6.5 overs. Arya fell first for a 17-ball 43 before Prabhsimran’s dismissal in the next over for a 26-ball 76. The duo hit 10 maximums and 11 boundaries between them.
Captain Shreyas Iyer took over from the opening duo, slamming 71 runs in 36 balls, while also being dropped twice by Karun Nair. Punjab overhauled Delhi’s total with seven balls to spare, registering the highest-ever successful run chase in T20 cricket, breaking their own world record.
Punjab had chased down 262 against the Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens in IPL 2024.
