Sri Lanka fast bowler Nuwan Thushara has apologised to Sri Lanka Cricket and is now looking to withdraw his legal challenge over the denial of a No Objection Certificate for the IPL, according to reports.

Thushara, who was retained by Royal Challengers Bengaluru ahead of the 2026 season, was denied an NOC after failing to meet Sri Lanka Cricket’s fitness standards. The clearance is mandatory for all overseas players to participate in the IPL, and the refusal effectively left his involvement in this year’s tournament in doubt.

Following the decision, Thushara moved the Colombo District Court, seeking a directive that would compel the board to grant him the NOC. In his petition, he argued that his central contract had expired on March 31, and that he had already informed the board of his decision not to renew it. He also maintained that his current fitness levels were consistent with those accepted previously.

As per NewsWire, Thushara has since written to Sri Lanka Cricket expressing regret over how the matter unfolded, stating he never intended to “cause inconvenience to the governing body”. He added, “I would like to express my willingness to withdraw any legal action and instead seek an amicable resolution to this matter. I remain hopeful that we can move forward in a positive and constructive manner.”

In response to the petition, Sri Lanka Cricket had informed the court that it would file objections. The case is scheduled for its next hearing on April 23.

Thushara’s situation is part of a broader issue involving Sri Lankan players and NOC clearances this season. Wanindu Hasaranga was also denied clearance on fitness grounds and has since been ruled out of the tournament, with George Linde named as his replacement at Lucknow Super Giants. Kolkata Knight Riders, meanwhile, are awaiting clarity on Matheesha Pathirana, who is yet to receive his NOC.
