Chennai Super Kings (CSK) handed out a debut to Ramakrishna Ghosh, the seam-bowling all-rounder from Maharashtra, in their IPL 2026 match against Mumbai Indians (MI).
Who is Ramakrishna Ghosh, the CSK debutant with a seven-wicket haul in List A cricket?
CSK signed Ghosh for his base price of INR 30 lakh at the IPL 2025 auction, but he didn’t get the chance to make his debut that year. The franchise retained him ahead of the mini-auction, following which he impressed for Maharashtra at the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26 under Ruturaj Gaikwad, who is also the CSK captain.
He started the season with a three-wicket haul and a run-a-ball 73 from No.6 against Punjab, his career-best List A knock. Ghosh followed it up with another three-wicket haul and an 18* from No.3 against Sikkim.
In the following game against Himachal Pradesh, he dismissed all of their top order and the tail to finish with figures of 7-42, becoming only the 12th bowler to take seven or more wickets in a VHT match. Maharashtra also continued to trust his batting, and he repaid the faith with a 31-ball 47 against Uttarakhand and a 27-ball 64, featuring three fours and five sixes, in a commanding win over a star-studded Mumbai side.
The right-arm seamer finished the List A competition with 17 wickets at 15.82 and an economy rate of 5.10, the most for Maharashtra. He was also the fourth-highest run-scorer for the state side with 189 runs in seven matches at 45.00 and a strike-rate of 119.04. In all, he has picked up 21 wickets at 21.45 in List A cricket, while scoring 246 runs at 35.14 and striking at 117.14.
Ghosh’s T20 numbers don't catch the eye, but nine matches are also not a big enough sample size to judge him solely on, however. He has taken two wickets in the format at 126 each, while conceding runs at 10.95 per over, and has also scored 45 runs at a strike-rate of 150. He has also made his first-class debut, which came against Jharkhand in the 2023-24 Ranji Trophy season. In 13 matches in the format, he has taken 28 wickets at 33 each and scored 455 runs at 30.33, with a top score of 99.
Notably, the 28-year-old all-rounder took a stunner to send Will Jacks packing in just the second over of his IPL debut. He also dismissed Suryakumar Yadav for his first-ever IPL wicket.
