Why CSK players are wearing black armbands for IPL 2026 match against MI

The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) players are donning black armbands for their ongoing IPL 2026 match against the Mumbai Indians (MI). Here’s why.

CSK quick Mukesh Choudhary’s mother passed away on April 21, and as a mark of respect and to show solidarity with their teammate, the players are wearing black armbands. Ahead of the game, the franchise posted a message on X that read:

“The CSK family mourns the passing of Mukesh Choudhary’s mother. We stand with Mukesh and his family, keeping them in our thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.”

Subsequently, they posted during the match: “This one is for Mukesh’s mother. In her memory and in solidarity with Mukesh, we wear black armbands and play with a little more in our hearts today.”

Mukesh Choudhary named in CSK XI for IPL 2026 match against MI

The left-arm quick was named in the CSK squad to play MI in the all-important game at the Wankhede Stadium. This is just his second appearance in IPL 2026 after playing his first game of the season in their last outing against SRH, where he returned figures of 2-21.

Mumbai captain Hardik Pandya won the toss and invited Chennai to bat first. CSK named Kartik Sharma in their starting XI, replacing Ayush Mhatre, who was ruled out of the season due to a hamstring injury. The wait for MS Dhoni’s return continued for the fans, while Rohit Sharma missed a second consecutive game for MI.
