Watch: Trent Boult suffered another comical run-out during Sunday's (June 29) MLC 2025 clash between Texas Super Kings and MI New York.
The same opponents and the same mode of dismissal out of utter confusion two weeks after the first gave Trent Boult a deja vu moment. The incident occurred on the fourth ball of the 20th over, with MINY needing 40 more runs to win. Boult dug out a yorker from Marcus Stoinis but, just like last time, seemed unsure of what to do next. He initially set off for a run, then hesitated as the ball trickled towards wicketkeeper Smit Patel. At the very last moment, he turned to check if his batting partner, Sunny Patel, was committing to the run. Unsure, Boult tried to scramble back, but Smit Patel’s quick throw to the striker’s end caught him short, sealing his fate.
"Trent, have you run yourself out again?" exclaimed Danny Morrison on commentary.
"Oh, these are going to be put back to back. This is gonna become a meme," quipped his fellow commentator. "It's gonna go viral on social media yet again. Starts off with a reaction to the ball that was right in the block, hit him on the toe. He didn't know where the ball was, he spun around three times. He's gonna walk off dizzy."
For TSK, Akeal Hosein (3-15) was the start of the show for his economical spell. Their huge total was set up by a 53-ball 103 not out from captain Faf du Plessis, who became only the second player to score two T20 centuries after turning 40. Donovan Ferreira also played his part with a 20-ball 53.
