Trent Boult suffered a comical run out after a moment of sheer confusion during Friday's (June 13) MLC 2025 clash between MI New York and Texas Super Kings.
The incident occurred in the 19th over during MINY’s chase. With 14 still needed off 10 balls and three wickets in hand, Boult found himself at the center of a running mix-up, one he largely had only himself to blame for.
Adam Milne bowled a back-of-a-length delivery to Tajinder Dhillon, who guided it past short third man. Mohammad Mohsin fielded the ball cleanly, but chaos ensued when Boult, having reached the striker’s end, impulsively turned for a second run.
First, he lost his bat mid-pivot while attempting the second. Then, in a panic, he ran without it, hesitated, and scrambled back to ensure the first run was completed. But the madness didn't end there: Boult slipped and fell to his knees as he set off again, only to realise the throw was already in wicketkeeper Devon Conway’s hands. In a last-ditch effort, he dived full-stretch, leading with his left hand, but Conway was quicker, whipping off the bails to end Boult’s misery for six off three balls.
MINY suffered three run outs in the space of 11 balls, with Kieron Pollard (32 off 16) and Monank Patel (62 off 44) being the other two victims.
Needing nine runs to win off the final over bowled by Daryll Mitchell, MINY fell short of their 186-run target by three runs. TSK’s win was set up by a 44-ball 65 from Conway before Calvin Savage (53 not out off 34) provided late impetus to their innings.
The hilarious run-out left many in splits. "Don’t know what to make of it, but it’s very watchable," quipped Stuart Broad in a comment under a video of the incident posted by MLC’s official social media channels.
Later, Boult indulged in some self-deprecating humour in the same post, saying, "Not sure who’s more confused. Me or the American audience watching this."
