James Bracey of Gloucestershire acknowledges the crowd as he celebrates reaching his half-century during the Men's Metro Bank One Day Cup match between Gloucestershire and Derbyshire Falcons at College Ground on August 05, 2025 in Cheltenham, England

Out-of-favour England wicketkeeper James Bracey struck 186 in Gloucestershire’s 52-run win over Nottinghamshire in the 2025 One-Day Cup on Friday (August 22).

Batting first at Trent Bridge, Gloucestershire made 343-7. Their innings was spearheaded by James Bracey, who fell just short of his second List A double-hundred, dismissed for 186 off 150 balls. Bracey’s innings was studded with 20 fours and six sixes. Gloucestershire’s next-best score came from his fellow opener, Cameron Bancroft, who made 46 off 56. The duo gave the team a solid platform with an opening partnership of 121.

Bracey’s 186 is now the second-highest individual List A score for Gloucestershire. The record also belongs to him, from his unbeaten 224 against Somerset in 2023.

In response, Nottinghamshire were bowled out for 291 in 47.2 overs. Captain Haseeb Hameed, who has enjoyed a stellar county season so far, top-scored with 80, but it wasn’t enough for his team.

Upon being dismissed for 186, Bracey narrowly missed entering an elite group of cricketers with more than one List A double century. Rohit Sharma, Alistair Brown, Travis Head, and Prithvi Shaw currently occupy this exclusive club. Notably, Rohit's three double-hundreds have all come for India in ODIs, which makes him a unique member. His 264 against Sri Lanka at Eden Gardens in 2014 remains the highest individual score in ODI cricket.

Bracey received his maiden Test call-up for England in the 2021 home series against New Zealand. He kept wicket for the hosts in those matches but managed just eight runs from two games as England lost the series 1-0. Since then, the 28-year-old hasn't represented England and has largely fallen out of contention.
