Kuldeep Yadav dismissed Ben Stokes in a star-studded One-Day Cup clash between Durham and Yorkshire on Friday (July 31), continuing his impressive start to life with the county.
Durham, captained by Kasey Aldridge, fielded a strong XI at York, featuring several high-profile names including former England Test opener Alex Lees, new England debutant Emilio Gay, Ollie Robinson and Stokes. But they struggled to get going, falling to 15-3 in 9.3 overs, with both Lees and Gay back in the hut.
Meanwhile, having signed for Yorkshire for this season, Kuldeep has made an immediate impact. He picked up 2-39 against Glamorgan and then 2-58 against Sussex, a game in which he also struck an unbeaten 22 off 12 balls from No.9, before following it up with figures of 2-34 against Worcestershire. He continued that form against Durham with another two-wicket haul.
His first wicket of the day was Stokes, a batter he has enjoyed success against over the years. Before this match, Kuldeep had dismissed the former England captain five times across formats in 176 deliveries. He added another to that tally when Stokes, attempting a reverse sweep, was caught at backward point for 12.
Stokes took 13 deliveries to score his first run and his dismissal for 12 off 39 left Durham reeling at 42-4 inside 12 overs. Kuldeep later removed Colin Ackermann in the 37th over as Durham were eventually bowled out for 165.
Stokes had entered the game in fine form, having scored unbeaten knocks of 108 and 73 in his first two One-Day Cup appearances this season, before being dismissed for a duck against Glamorgan on July 29.
