Toby Albert scored six sixes off as many deliveries, spread across two overs, in Hampshire’s One-Day Cup clash against Sussex in Hove on Sunday, August 9.
Hampshire scored 383-9 in the game, their second best score in List-A cricket after a 396-5 against Kent in Beckenham in 2022. This was also the joint-highest total by any team this season in the One-Day Cup 2026, along with Lancashire's 389-4 against Leicestershire. Hampshire eventually beat Sussex by 51 runs, securing their fourth victory this term.
Ben Mayes, playing his first game of the season, scored a 115-ball 109 to mark his maiden List A-hundred. His opening partner Ali Orr score a run-a-ball-105 as well, with the duo together adding 225 runs in 35 overs. Albert, batting at No.3, then put the foot on the accelerator to take Hampshire to a mighty total with his 37-ball 86.
Sussex did not have the best of starts to the chase, losing Tom Haines and Oli Carter cheaply. However, Charlie Tear scored a brave 111 off just 94 deliveries to keep them in the hunt, along with crucial fifties from Jack Leaning and Danial Ibrahim. But Sussex were bowled out for 332, falling short by 51 runs to suffer their sixth defeat in seven matches this season.
Toby Albert shines for Hampshire with six sixes in six balls
Albert walked out to bat with almost 15 overs left in the innings. The series of six sixes started off the last two balls of the 43rd over, bowled by Nantes Oosthuizen, which also helped him complete a 26-ball fifty. He then slammed four consecutive sixes off the next four balls that he faced, against Ollie Kirtley. His 37-ball 86 was also the quickest 50+ knock of the ongoing One-Day Cup season.
Albert now has 221 runs in the tournament so far in three matches, which includes two fifties. His highest score of 89 came in a loss against Durham in Southampton. Overall, the right-handed batter has scored 962 runs at 43.72 across 26 List A innings, with seven fifties under his belt.
Hampshire will play Derbyshire next, on August 11, in Southampton. A victory will take them to the quarter-finals.
