Shaheen Afridi will return to the national set-up after a four-month absence, with several changes made by the PCB for Pakistan's upcoming white-ball tour of West Indies.
Mohammad Rizwan will lead the 16-member ODI squad for the three-match series, while Salman Ali Agha will continue to captain the T20I side. The ODI matches will be held at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad & Tobago on August 8, 10, and 12, following the T20I fixtures that are set to take place on July 31, August 2, and August 3 at Lauderhill in Florida.
Rizwan, Babar retain places in ODI team; Shaheen returns
Rizwan and Babar Azam have retained their places in the ODI team, after not playing an international series since the New Zealand tour earlier this year. Following that series, the Pakistan selectors made their intentions clear to bring fresher legs into the T20I set-up.
Shaheen will return to both white-ball squads, after not being selected for the twin series against Bangladesh. He was also not picked for the ODIs against New Zealand. Babar and Rizwan, on the other hand, have only been picked for the 50-over squads. Haris Rauf will also make a return into the T20I side, after missing the recent Bangladesh series due to a hamstring injury sustained during the Major League Cricket.
Among the fresh faces, right-handed batter Hasan Nawaz is the only uncapped inclusion in the ODI squad. Nawaz has already made his mark in the shortest format, making 260 runs with a strike rate of 179.31 after 11 games. He has only played five List A matches at an average of 24.
Imam-ul-Haq, who was in Pakistan's ODI squad for the New Zealand series, has been omitted after making four in the two games he played. He is yet to score a hundred since March 2022 in the format.
The squad is expected to land in the United States on Sunday, July 27, ahead of the series opener.
