Islamabad United defeated Karachi Kings in the final match of the PSL league stage in Rawalpindi on Monday (May 20) to reach Qualifier 1. Here is the updated PSL 2025 points table after the completion of the group stage.
The match determined the final playoffs lineup. While Quetta Gladiators had already secured a top-two finish and Lahore Qalandars an Eliminator spot, Monday’s clash decided who would join QG in the top two, earning the playoff advantage.
Batting first, Alex Hales (88 off 35 balls) and Sahibzada Farhan (73 off 41) laid a solid platform with a 69-ball 153-run opening stand. Another 19-ball 42 from captain Shadab Khan took Islamabad to 251-5.
KK’s run-chase was all over the place. Neither captain David Warner (43 off 28) nor James Vince (8 off 10) could replicate anything close to their clinical partnership from the Peshawar Zalmi match. They slipped to 114-7, and though a late 13-ball 34 from Abbas Afridi restored some spark, it wasn't enough to prevent a 79-run defeat. Shadab's 4-45 proved impactful for IU despite being relatively expensive.

Final PSL 2025 points table after the league stage
Islamabad United, entering the match with a net run rate (NRR) of -0.044 compared to Karachi Kings' +0.514, needed a sizable victory to secure a top-two finish. Their 79-run win propelled them two spots up to second place, while Karachi Kings dropped to third.
Islamabad United will now face table-toppers Quetta Gladiators in Qualifier 1 on May 21, while Karachi Kings will meet Lahore Qalandars in the Eliminator on May 22.
The Qualifier 1 winners advance directly to the final, while the losers get a second chance in Qualifier 2 on May 23 against the Eliminator winners.
