Babar Azam equalled the record for the most runs scored in a PSL season with a superb ton in the Qualifier against Islamabad United on Tuesday (April 28).
Starting the Qualifier with 485 runs in the PSL 2026 season, Babar went on to slam 103 off 59 balls, featuring 12 fours and four sixes. The knock took him to 588 runs in the campaign, the same as Fakhar Zaman’s total in the 2021/22 season.
Peshawar were put into bat by Islamabad captain Shadab Khan, and were given a fiery start by Babar and Mohammad Haris, who had come into the side for James Vince. The duo together scored 72 runs in 6.2 overs, with Haris falling for a 16-ball 35.
Mendis and Babar then joined hands to maintain the momentum, as they have done many times this season. The duo added 84 runs for the second wicket in 51 balls, with the Pakistan star completing a 38-ball fifty during the stand and accelerating in the 14th over, hitting Shadab Khan for two sixes.
He went from fifty to hundred in 19 balls, getting to three figures with a six before falling to Salman Mirza in the penultimate over. Riding on his ton, Kusal Mendis’s 26-ball 41 and Aaron Hardie’s quickfire 20 off 10, Peshawar Zalmi posted 221-7.
This was Babar's second ton of the PSL 2026 season and fourth overall, joint-most with Usman Khan, who also hit his fourth hundred in the PSL earlier in this campaign. He will have the chance to break the all-time run-scoring record in either Eliminator 2 or the final, depending upon the result of the Qualifier.
