Quetta Gladiators fielded both the replacement and the player he replaced in the same XI for their PSL 2026 match against Lahore Qalandars on Friday (April 17).

Quetta Gladiators fielded both Bevon Jacobs and Dinesh Chandimal in the same XI for their PSL 2026 match against Lahore Qalandars on Friday (April 17), despite Chandimal having earlier been named as Jacobs' replacement in the squad.

Bevon Jacobs and his replacement Dinesh Chandimal both selected in Quetta Gladiators XI

On April 16, Quetta announced the signing of Dinesh Chandimal as a replacement for Bevon Jacobs, who would leave for national duty after being picked in New Zealand’s T20I squad for their tour to Bangladesh. The T20I series, however, doesn’t start for another 10 days, with the first match scheduled for April 27.

When captain Saud Shakeel named the XI for their matchup against Lahore, both Jacobs and Chandimal were part of it, which created a fair bit of confusion among fans regarding how the replacement and replaced player can feature in an XI together. Jacobs, in fact, returned to the XI after missing the Gladiators’ previous PSL match against Peshawar Zalmi.

A few fans commented on social media that Chandimal could be replacing Tom Curran, not in Quetta's XI today, due to illness. However, Shakeel confirmed that Curran remains with the squad at the toss, and that he arrived with the team to Karachi.

This potentially means that Quetta now have an extra player in their squad. Wisden.com have approached the PSL for clarification on the same, but are yet to get a response.

Lahore batted first in the rematch of the PSL 2025 final, but stuttered their way to 134 all out. Mohammad Naeem and Fakhar Zaman had a brief opening stand, with both departing by the third over. The rest followed suit, with Lahore down to 60-6 in the 11th over before Haseebullah Khan’s 24-run stand with Sikandar Raza and 25-run partnership with Daniel Sams took them past 100.

A seven-ball 22 from Usama Mir then took them to 134. Jahandad Khan and Usman Tariq starred with three-wicket hauls, while Alzarri Joseph took two. Quetta were 25-2 after four overs at the time of writing.
