Shahbaz Ahmed demolished Haryana with an 11-wicket haul. In the process, he completed the 300 run-30 wicket double in the 2025/26 Ranji Trophy.
Shahbaz Ahmed leads rout as Bengal win inside three days
Sudip Chatterjee (86) had helped Bengal post 193 after Ankit Kumar won the toss and opted to field at Lahli. Bowling unchanged for 15 overs, Akash Deep then claimed 5-40, while Shahbaz took 5-42 as Bengal bowled out Haryana for 100 in 31.1 overs.
Captain Abhimanyu Easwaran (83) and Sudip Kumar Gharami (61) then put on 109 for the second wicket to help Bengal set a target of 294. Yuvraj Singh and Ankit began well, putting on 44 for the opening stand before Shahbaz struck thrice in four balls. Later, he struck thrice in 12 balls (including twice in three) to snare the first six wickets of the fourth innings.
Shahbaz finished with 6-38 as Haryana folded for a mere 105 in 26.1 overs. Having already qualified for the quarter-finals, Bengal now ensured they finished at the top of Group C with 36 points.
This was Shahbaz’s second ten-wicket haul as well as his best match figures in first-class cricket: he had previously taken 11-101 (7-57 and 4-44) against Punjab at Patiala in the 2019/20 Ranji Trophy.
Having missed a game, Shahbaz finished the league stage with 363 runs at 45.37 and 35 wickets at 13.97. At the time of writing – the final day’s play is still going on – only Siddharth Desai (44) and Mayank Mishra (42) have more wickets, while Shreyas Gopal also has 35.
