Yashasvi Jaiswal picked up his maiden first-class wicket on day three (November 3) of the third round of Ranji Trophy 2025-26, dismissing double-centurion Deepak Hooda.
Deepak Hooda helps Rajasthan build big lead over Mumbai
After Mumbai posted 254 batting first in Jaipur, Rajasthan mounted a massive reply, piling up 617-6 before declaring their innings. At the heart of their batting effort was all-rounder Deepak Hooda, who struck a commanding double century off 292 balls. He shared a 265-run partnership with No. 6 Kartik Sharma, whose fluent 139 off 192 deliveries included 13 boundaries and three sixes.
For Hooda, it was the second double hundred of his career – the first being an unbeaten 293 for Baroda against Punjab back in 2016. During Rajasthan’s quarter-final run in the 2021-22 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, he tallied 294 runs at an average of 73.50 and a strike rate of 168, a performance that paved the way for his T20I debut in February 2022.
Since then, Hooda has represented India in 21 T20Is, scoring 368 runs at 30.66 and 147.20, including an appearance in the 2022 T20 World Cup. His career highlight came during a blazing 104 against Ireland. However, a lean patch stretching into February 2023 led to his exclusion from the side. He has also featured in 10 ODIs, scoring 153 runs at an average of 25.50 and a strike rate of 80.95.

Yashasvi Jaiswal bags maiden first-class wicket
With Hooda settled firmly at the crease, Mumbai captain Shardul Thakur turned to an unlikely option – Yashasvi Jaiswal. Bowling leg-breaks, the part-timer struck in his third over, dismissing Hooda for a marathon 248 off 335 balls, an innings studded with 22 fours and two sixes. Rajasthan declared their innings with a 363-run first innings lead, with Jaiswal finishing with 1-9 off 2.3 overs.
The wicket was a special one for Jaiswal – his first in first-class cricket, coming in his 47th match. Since his debut in 2019, the left-handed batter had bowled sparingly, turning his arm over in just seven innings previously, with his heaviest workload being a tidy four-over stint for seven runs without success in the recent Duleep Trophy semi-final in September. Before this, List A cricket was the only format in which Jaiswal had taken wickets, with seven scalps at an average of 36.71 and an economy rate of 5.41.
