Tony de Zorzi celebrates after taking a sharp catch at short leg to dismiss Prabath Jayasuriya off Kagiso Rabada’s bowling during day three of the 2024 Durban Test between South Africa and Sri Lanka

Watch: South Africa opener Tony de Zorzi took a sharp catch at short leg off fast bowler Kagiso Rabada during day three (November 29) of the Durban Test against Sri Lanka.

The breakthrough came in the 30th over of the fourth innings. Rabada bowled a full delivery on the middle and leg to nightwatch Prabath Jayasuriya, who timed a regulation flick shot nicely, albeit in the air.

However, de Zorzi, stationed at short leg, instinctively put his hands up to take a brilliant reflex grab. What’s remarkable was the fielder maintained his posture while intercepting the ball, barely flinching to complete the catch.

De Zorzi was ecstatic as he mimicked English footballer Cole Palmer’s 'cold' celebration before being hugged by teammates. It was Rabada’s second wicket of the innings as Sri Lanka went to stumps at 103-5, chasing a daunting fourth innings target of 516.

On day four, Dinesh Chandimal (69*) and captain Dhananjaya de Silva (59) showed resilience as Sri Lanka went to lunch at 220-6, keeping the hosts' bowlers at bay.
