Baroda opener Amit Passi equalled a world record in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy on Monday (December 8).
Amit Passi cracks 44-ball century on T20 debut
The Gymkhana Ground in Hyderabad played host to the Baroda versus Services match in the seventh round of this season' competition. Baroda skipper Vishnu Solanki won the toss and elected to bat, Shashwat Rawat and debutant Amit Passi opening the innings.
Rawat fell for 14 before No.3 Ninad Rathva was also dismissed in the powerplay to leave Baroda at 59-2. Passi did the bulk of the early scoring, racing to 31 off 14 at the fall of the second wicket. He got to his half-century off 24 deliveries, 44 of which came in boundaries.

Shivalik Sharma was a near-passenger in the next stand, contributing 16 in 15 balls as Passi made another 33 off 16. Passi kept on going, and in the company of skipper Solanki, achieved the rare distinction of scoring a century on T20 debut, off 44 balls. He made his way to 114 off 54 balls, before falling to Abhishek Tiwari.
Passi is the tenth man to score a century on T20 debut, and the third to do so in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy after Akshath Reddy (for Hyderabad against Mumbai in 2010) and Shivam Bhambri (for Chandigarh against Himachal Pradesh in 2019). His score of 114 on debut is a joint world record, with Bilal Asif who made 114 for Sialkot Stallions against Abbottabad Falcons in 2015.
Baroda eventually scored 220-5, and Passi's century was the 15th of this year's Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, a tournament record. There were 13 centuries scored in 2018/19 and 2023/24, and 14 in 2024/25. The remainder of the ongoing round, three Super League rounds and the final remain for this number to rise.
Who is Amit Passi?
While this is his first match for Baroda, Passi was impressive in this year's Baroda T20 league, making 100 runs in six innings at a strike rate of nearly 180. He played for the A4 Super Strikers, alongside current Baroda skipper Solanki as well as Shivalik and Mahesh Pithiya who represent Baroda.
