Urvil Patel enters fastest T20 tons top-five again

Leading Gujarat in SMAT 2025, Urvil Patel slammed a scintillating century to drive his team through to a thumping eight-wicket win over Services at the Gymkhana Ground in Hyderabad. Chasing 183, Patel (119 off 37) came out flying for Gujarat, stitching a 174-run opening partnership with Aarya Desai (60 off 35). He hit 12 fours and 10 sixes during the knock as Gujarat overhauled the total in the 13^th over.

The wicketkeeper-batter completed his 100 in just 31 balls, breaking into the top five of the fastest-ever T20 tons yet again. In the 2024/25 SMAT season, he had slammed a 28-ball 100 against Tripura, which put him second on the list of quickest T20 centuries.

On the back of a brilliant last SMAT season, where he scored 315 runs in six innings at a strike rate of nearly 230, and hit the most sixes in the season with 29, Patel was called to the CSK squad as a replacement for Vansh Bedi for their last three matches of a forgettable IPL 2025.

Slotting in at No.3 in Ruturaj Gaikwad’s absence, he slammed an 11-ball 31 in his first outing and a 19-ball 37 in his third, with a duck sandwiched in between. He has been retained by the side ahead of the IPL 2026 season.
