England Test legend James Anderson continues his red-hot form in the 2025 T20 Blast, claiming his third three-wicket haul of the season on Friday (June 13).
In 2024, Anderson brought the curtain down on his iconic 22-year international career last year before signing a one-year county contract with Lancashire. The current edition of the T20 Blast also marks his return to the format after an 11-year absence. Right from the word go, he made an impact, claiming career-best T20 figures of 3-17 in Lancashire’s win over Durham. Three days later, he recorded his third-best T20 haul with 3-31 against Northamptonshire, albeit in a losing cause.
Anderson added another three-wicket haul to his T20 tally when Lancashire faced Worcestershire on Friday in a North Group match at Visit Worcestershire New Road. Bowling the first over, he struck early for Lancashire, dismissing Worcestershire captain Brett D’Oliveira for a duck.
His next two victims were Gareth Roderick (35 off 28) – the innings’ top scorer – and Fateh Singh (2) in the 16th over, leaving the opposition struggling at 119-9. A late 12-ball 24 cameo from Jacob Duffy helped Worcestershire reach 143 before being bowled out with five balls remaining. Anderson finished with figures of 3-32.
In response, Lancashire gunned down the total with seven wickets and 15 balls remaining. After captain Keaton Jennings set a platform with 42 off 37, Liam Livingstone’s 22-ball 41 not out sealed the chase for the visiting team.
Anderson has now taken 10 wickets from four matches at an average of 10.30 and an economy of 6.86. Only Durham's Ben Raine (13 wickets at 6.82) and Northants' Ben Sanderson (19 wickets at 6.57) have taken more wickets at a better economy so far.
His bowling figures this season read: 3-17, 1-23, 3-31, and 3-32. Notably, before this year, his only T20 three-wicket haul came way back in the 2009 T20 World Cup, when he took 3-23 for England against the Netherlands.
