At Sophia Gardens in Cardiff, Sussex captain Tymal Mills won the toss and elected to bat first. The visitors posted 199-7 in their 20 overs, courtesy of a team effort as their entire top six scored double-figures. Opener Harrison Ward top-scored with 55 off 24 balls.

Australian quick Nathan McAndrew struck the first blow in Sussex's defence, removing Glamorgan opener William Smale for nine. Returning in the 12th over, he took two more important wickets – set batters Ben Kellaway and Colin Ingram – to reduce Glamorgan to 107-5.

At the start of his final over, the 19th of the innings, Glamorgan needed 30 runs with three wickets in hand. McAndrew had Timm van der Gugten caught off the first ball, and No.6 Asa Tribe caught two balls later. Two balls after that, Ned Leonard perished to hand Sussex a 27-run win, and McAndrew his career-best T20 figures.

His 6-21 are now the best T20 figures for Sussex, beating the record of 5-11 held by Pakistan spinner Mushtaq Ahmed since June 2005.

McAndrew torments Glamorgan twice in one week

This was the third five-wicket haul of McAndrew's T20 career. Curiously enough, the previous one had come just six days earlier, against Glamorgan as well. Kellaway, Ingram and van der Gugten were three of his victims that day in Hove as well, as he finished with 5-19 – helping Sussex to a 78-run victory. The first of his career came in the Big Bash League this year, as he took 5-16 for Sydney Thunder against Melbourne Stars in January.

McAndrew is now just the seventh bowler to take multiple T20 five-wicket hauls against the same team, and his figures against Glamorgan this season now read 11-40 from just 7.5 overs. In four other Blast games this year, he has combined figures of 2-100 in 12 overs.
