Rashid Khan rocked the Manchester Super Giants with a five-wicket haul in the 18th match of The Hundred men's 2026 competition.
On Sunday, Rashid became only the eighth bowler to register a five-wicket haul in the men’s competition of The Hundred. Riding on his his spell, MI London registered their third victory of the ongoing campaign. This was the first five-for in The Hundred men's after Tim Southee and Sam Curran both achiveved the feat in the 2024 edition.
The Afghanistan spinner, who is the top wicket-taker in T20 cricket and the only one with more than 700 wickets in the format, was notably introduced too late (after 50 balls) in MI's last game, against London Spirit, which played a role in their defeat. But on Sunday, he was brought into the attack after 25 deliveries, with the Manchester Super Giants chasing a stiff 184.
Tim Seifert and Aiden Markram had added 55 runs in the first 25 deliveries to provide their side a good start. But Rashid got to work immediately, sending back Seifert on his fifth delivery which crashed into the middle stump.
And he didn’t stop there. Rashid sent Jos Buttler packing in his very next over as Nathan Sowter contributed with a fantastic catch on the ropes. In his first 10 deliveries, the spinner gave away a mere six runs in exchange of two important wickets. At the end of 40 deliveries, the Super Giants required 114 off 60.
Rashid was then brought back when 87 runs were required off 40 balls, with Heinrich Klaasen in the middle. The spinner removed Klaasen and Tom Moores in a span of three deliveries, reducing the Super Giants to 104-5 after 65 balls. The 27-year-old then sent Liam Dawson packing to complete his five-wicket haul.
With the score reading 109-6 at the end of 72 deliveries, the target was too steep for the Super Giants, who were eventually bowled out for 138 to lose by 45 runs. Rashid was named the Player of the Match for picking up five of the first six MSG wickets.
