The fixture between Manchester Super Giants and Birmingham Phoenix was abandoned without a single ball being bowled after persistent rain at Old Trafford. As a result, the Super Giants lost a chance to win their second consecutive match in the group stage, and are now placed with six points. On the other hand, the Phoenix opened their account with two points after their initial loss against the Trent Rockets.

London Spirit elected to field first, and it soon felt like the right decision. Marizanne Kapp dismissed Beth Mooney first ball, but skipper Ash Gardner’s 22-ball 34 and a late surge from Bess Heath (20-ball 32*) carried the Trent Rockets to a respectable 142-6.
Kapp stole the show, scalping 3-12 runs off her 20 deliveries, but Deandra Dottin went for 32 in 10. Skipper Charlie Dean pulled back proceedings with figures of 2-18 off her 20 deliveries.
In reply, the London Spirit looked promising at the start, but were soon taken down by the Rockets. After openers Grace Harris and Amy Jones fell in the space of six runs, none of the batters could hold fort. From 55-0, the Spirit were reduced to 67-4. It was the 64-run partnership between Marie Kelly and Nadine de Klerk which resurrected their innings, taking them over the line with five wickets to spare.

Who were the top performers in Trent Rockets vs London Spirit?
Dunkley, Luff, Gardner and Heath were the highest run-scorers for the Rockets, with the four contributing 123 runs out of the 142 in total. As for the Spirit, Kapp scalped a three-wicket haul, followed by Dean, who picked up two and Charis Pavely one.
The chase, for most of it, was nothing that the London Spirit would have hoped for. Harris’ 20-ball 37 provided them with a decent start, but they lost wickets in a cluster to derail themselves from the chase. However, Kelly and de Klerk turned it around for the Spirit to earn their first points of the season. Kelly scored a blistering 31-ball 53, coupled with de Klerk's unbeaten 17-ball 28.
