Karnataka chased down Karnataka’s 412 to register the highest List A run chase by an Indian team, during the Vijay Hazare Trophy clash today (December 24).

Karnataka achieve record-breaking win

India’s 50-over tournament began on Wednesday, with several records already being broken on the day. The Jharkhand-Karnataka match, being played in Ahmedabad, saw Karnataka deciding to bowl first after winning the toss. Ishan Kishan, who has recently made an international comeback, was the star performer for Jharkhand, making a 39-ball 125 at No.5, with the help of 14 sixes. It helped his side to a massive total, but Karnataka answered back in style.

They piled on 114 in 70 deliveries for the first wicket, with skipper Mayank Agarwal making 54 in 34. His opening partner, Devdutt Padikkal, who last played Test cricket for India against Australia at Perth last year, scored a well-paced 147 in 118 deliveries, staying till the 40th over and ensuring his team put on a fight.

He was dismissed by Saurabh Shekhar when Karnataka needed 88 runs in the last 9.2 overs, but Abhinav Manohar (56* in 32) and Dhruv Prabhakar (40* in 22) ensured Karnataka overhauled Jharkhand’s total in 47.3 overs.

It is a national record, with only one other team successfully chasing 400 in the second innings - when South Africa chased down 435 against Australia in 2006.

Karnataka register the highest successful run chase in nearly 21 years

Barring the Proteas and now Karnataka, no other team has chased down over 400 successfully in the second innings of a List A game. A few teams have chased over 350, but only seven have chased over 380. The previous high in India was 384, with Andhra chasing the total against Goa in 2012.
