Smriti Mandhana broke multiple records with her 64-ball 124 for India against Hong Kong in the ongoing Women’s Asia Cup.
Mandhana, during her match-winning knock, went past Mithali Raj to become the highest run-scorer in women’s international cricket. She walked out to bat with 10,756 international runs to her name, 112 shy of Mithali’s 10,868, and finished 12 ahead of the India legend.
She also moved past Meg Lanning and Laura Wolvaardt to take an outright lead in the list of the most centuries in women’s international cricket. While Lanning and Wolvdaart have 17 each, Mandhana’s demolition job against Hong Kong was her 18th international hundred.
Her 124 was also the highest-ever score in Women's T20 Asia Cup, and the highest score for India in T20Is. She also hit seven sixes in the match, taking her past Harmanpreet Kaur to now have the most sixes for India in the format.
India continue Asia Cup march with commanding Hong Kong win
India began their Asia Cup campaign with a strong 94-run victory over Thailand. They batted first in the second game as well, with Shafali Verma and Mandhana together adding 74 for the opening wicket before the former fell for 28. Not much came off the bats of Pratika Rawal, Richa Ghosh and skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, as they were dismissed for scores of 10, 11 and 10, respectively.
India went through a lean patch, failing to hit a boundariy for 22 balls - from 7.3 to 10.4, during which they also lost Shafali. Mandhana ultimately broke the shackles with a six and a four on the last two deliveries of the 11th over, also getting to her fifty off 40 balls. She then raced away to her 18th international century, taking just 17 more deliveries to get to three figures off 57, as India finished with an above-par 193-5.
Soon after completing her ton, she took down Ruchitha Venkatesh for three consecutive sixes in the 18th over. The second of those sixes took her past Mithali to the top of the run-scoring charts in women’s international cricket.

India bowled out Hong Kong for a mere 56, as Deepti Sharma starred with three wickets in exchange for nine runs. Nandani Sharma, Sree Charani and Prema Rawat bagged two wickets each.
India sit at the top of Group A with two wins in two matches, and four points. They will now take on arch-rivals Pakistan on September 5, in Dubai. Hong Kong are yet to earn their first points, and are reeling at the bottom of the table.
