The ICC announced the prize money for each team in the 2023-25 World Test Championship cycle on Thursday (May 15).
A press release from the ICC stated: “With less than a month to go until the one-off Test at Lord’s between South Africa and Australia, the ICC have unveiled a massive prize money pool for the 2023–25 edition of the ICC World Test Championship.
“The total prize pool for the WTC 2023-25 Final stands at USD $5.76 million, more than double that of the previous two editions.
“The champions will walk away with USD $3.6 million, a significant jump from the USD $1.6 million awarded in both 2021 and 2023 while the runners-up will earn USD $2.16 million, up from USD $800,000.”
ICC announces WTC prize money windfall
The two previous cycles of the World Test Championship had the same prize pool – $2.4 million for the final, and $3.8 million for all nine teams put together. This year, the finalists will take home $5.76 million between them, and the nine teams involved will be rewarded with $12 million in all – over three times more than the last two cycles.

This year's final will see Australia take on South Africa at Lord's from June 11, with the Aussies aiming to secure a second consecutive title after defeating India in 2023. This is the first time India will not be part of the final, having lost to New Zealand in the 2021 editions as well.
Both teams announced their squads for the final earlier this week, with no major surprises. There have been concerns about player availability in the lead-up to the final, following the temporary suspension of the IPL due to India-Pakistan border tensions, and the tournament's eventual stretching to June 3.
