Bangladesh will resume the World Test Championship with a home series against Pakistan. Who could be the next five Test debutants for them?

Amite Hasan

Amite is one of two uncapped players who have received a call-up to Test the squad for the Pakistan series. A 24-year-old right-handed batter, he has been a prolific run-scorer in the Bangladesh first-class circuit. From 49 first-class matches, he averages 49.32 and has 11 hundreds and 17 fifties to his name. In the latest National Cricket League season – Bangladesh’s premier first-class tournament – Amite made 440 runs from 11 innings at an average of 40, while in the Bangladesh Cricket League 2026, he made 162 in the only innings he played for East Zone, ending up top of the charts.

A wicketkeeper-batter who began his first-class career with a century on debut in 2019, Amite has already passed the first hurdle of making the Test squad. A Test cap might not be too far for him now.

Tanzid Hasan

Tanzid is already an established white-ball batter for Bangladesh, having featured in 34 ODIs and 47 T20Is. He now looks set to become an all-format player after being named in the Test squad against Pakistan. Tanzid has a decent first-class average of 40.72 after 25 games, but even more impressive is his strike rate of 77.67. He is a naturally aggressive opener whose game doesn’t change a lot based on formats. In the 2025 National Cricket League, Tanzid scored a hundred in the only game he played.

“Tanzid has been in our thoughts for Test cricket," Bangladesh chief selector Habibul Bashar said after he was named in the Test squad. "He has a very good first-class record and we felt he deserved the opportunity to showcase his ability in Tests. He has a sound technique and plenty of natural ability. We are confident that if he gets the chance, he can perform well in the longer format.”

Ashiqur Rahman Shibli

Shibli is a 20-year-old wicketkeeper-batter who rose to prominence in the 2023 U19 Asia Cup. His century in the final against UAE earned him the Player of the Match award, alongside a Player of the Tournament recognition as well. In 2024, he made his first-class debut for Dhaka Division as an opener and has since gone on to make 968 runs in 15 games at an average of 46.09 along with three hundreds and five fifties.

In the 2025 National Cricket League, Shibli was the sixth-highest run-scorer with 543 runs at an average of 54.30. In the 2026 Bangladesh Cricket League, he made 86 and 17 for Central Zone to finish as the fourth-highest scorer. Apart from the obvious volume of runs in his bag, Shibli’s ability to bat both at the top and in the middle order, along with the added skill of wicketkeeping will ensure that he remains in the selectors’ radar if a batting slot opens up anytime soon.

Mukidul Islam

It’s been a few years now that Bangladesh’s pace stocks have been rising. Nahid Rana has become the latest torch-bearer of that flame. And now, Bangladesh have fresh fast-bowling talent waiting in the wings to take over when the opportunity arises. Mukidul Islam is a 25-year-old right-arm quick who has been part of Bangladesh’s Test squad before without breaking through into the XI. He was called up to the preliminary squad for the Sri Lanka tour in 2021, the same series where left-arm quick Shoriful Islam also received his maiden Test call-up.

Five years on, Mukidul now has an impressive body of work behind him. From 26 first-class games, he has picked up 109 wickets at an average of 20.57 with as many as six five-wicket hauls. He was particularly prolific in the 2025 National Cricket League, picking up 29 wickets in four matches at a stunning average of 13.03. Mukidul is also an active white-ball cricketer, having played 55 List A and 74 T20 matches, alongside featuring for six different teams in the Bangladesh Premier League. If Bangladesh intend to rest their first-choice fast bowlers in Test matches in the near future, Mukidul would be in the running to replace them.

Ruyel Miah

Another promising fast bowler, Miah is a 25-year-old left-arm quick with the experience of 37 first-class matches under his belt. He has 116 wickets at 25.16 to go with seven five-fors and two ten-wicket hauls to his name. Miyah was just behind Mukidul on the wicket-takers’ chart in the 2025 National Cricket League. From six games, he picked up 27 scalps at 21.33.

Miah has already come close to making the Bangladesh Test squad. In 2024, he was part of the Bangladesh A side that played Pakistan Shaheens. While he only registered figures of 1-75 against them, it was an indication that selectors were interested in him. Since then, he has done well in domestic cricket and has only improved his chances of earning a Test cap in the future.
